Once you've gotten reasonably comfortable with digital notes, you'll end up writing much of your life into them.
At that point, you need a dashboard (or index) that lets you see the whole picture. Usually this is something you end up building naturally.
But the thing is, even after you build a dashboard like that, you often don't look at it. A dashboard works best when you look at it often, so your working context doesn't get cut off. If you only check it once in a while, you'll read it and not even remember what any of it meant.
In my case, I have my Obsidian index note automatically sent to the printer every morning at 7. The printout comes out right around when I wake up, and I start my day by reading the index note. Like reading the newspaper.
