I've gathered advice for the unaffiliated — that is, people who belong to no organization at all.
Adventure
Stepping off the normal track to set out on an adventure is frightening.
Especially for someone who has stayed on the normal track the whole way.

Side Work
Since income is unstable, side work that brings in a little money at a time is good. A small income gives you more of a sense of security than none at all, which helps you make riskier choices.
The advantage of being unaffiliated is flexibility with your time. So you should pick side work that lets you take advantage of that flexibility. If it's a part-time job that demands fixed hours, you're better off not doing it. Pick side work you can skip whenever you don't feel like doing it.
You should also secure things beyond just money as a by-product.
